Coping With A Panthers Loss
I imagine it's pretty obvious to those who know me that I am a big Carolina Panthers fan; they're one of the main topics of my posts to Facebook these days. If you keep up with that sort of thing, you'll also know that they lost their playoff game yesterday against the Seattle Seahawks. I did see some things from the team that gave me cause to be optimistic for next season, but overall, the game wasn't pretty so I was pretty bummed last night and I resolved to start my half marathon training in earnest today in order to wash away my disappointment with endorphins and adrenaline.
Today was a great day for a run, too; clear, sunny skies with a temperature just below 50 degrees so I didn't have to worry too much about staying warm. I've been lazier on my running schedule than I should be lately so I didn't want to push it too hard today, but I decided to work around my target pace of 9:09 minute miles to see how it felt. I put in 4 miles and averaged about 9:30 minute miles so I definitely see that I have my work cut out for me if I want to get the time I'm after.
My run accomplished the mission of getting me out of my Panther-loss-slump though and after I hit my protein shake and tried out my new pour over coffee maker, I was feeling quite good.
Thanks, brother!
The run was also a good shakeout for my legs after I tried out a new bodyweight exercise circuit the other day that included some squats and lunges. That circuit was an eye opener as well into how much improvement I have to make on my leg strengthening. Better late than never, I suppose though.
In the next couple days, I'm going to do a little review of one of the pieces of my cold running gear that I've come to enjoy using a lot so keep a look out for that post as well as more training updates for my half marathon goals. If anyone else is working on training for a half, it'd be awesome to hear from you about how it's going and what kind of running you're doing to prepare. Thanks for reading Run and Drum!
